Tracing his Irish roots to Laois, Roscommon and Kerry, Jim Moriarty and his wife Margaret reside in Rocky Hill, where they’re involved in their church and community.
Jim’s involvement in the Greater Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade dates back more than thirty years. A member of the Rocky Hill Parade Committee since the late 70’s, he was the committee’s Chairperson for a number of years. During the 1980’s, Jim served on the Executive Board of the United Irish Societies in the capacities of: Reviewing Stand, Colleen Ball, and General Chairperson. With former General Chair Jack Holleran, he was instrumental in the incorporation of the Central Connecticut Celtic Cultural Committee. Since the inception of “the 5 C’s” Jim acted as Parade Chair for ten years and held the role of General Chair for another two. The Parade Committee honored Jim and Margaret as Deputy Marshals of the 1994 parade.
A member of the Irish American Home Society, Jim held the office of Vice President for two years and currently sits on the club’s Board of Directors, having served one term as its Chairperson. A long-time feis and festival volunteer, he served as Chairperson of The Hartford Feis for nine years and as Co-Chair of The Greater Hartford Irish Music Festival for two. Jim and Margaret were awarded the IAHS President’s Award in 1998 and were festival honorees in 2006.
Jim wants to thank Margaret, his mom, his siblings, and friends – acknowledging that each of them owns a piece of this award for their constant support. |
